John B. Barrett is a Los Angeles based cinematographer originally from Laguna Beach, California. He began making movies as a kid, borrowing his dad’s camcorder to shoot action scenes with friends. After studying film production at CSU Fullerton, he expanded his toolkit quickly, first working as a drone operator, then developing a deep interest in Steadicam. Those tools helped him grow into a trusted camera operator and visual storyteller. He is now a member of IATSE Local 600 and an Associate of the Society of Camera Operators.

 

Barrett regularly works across narrative film, commercial production, and music video cinematography, and is often developing collaborative short films and experimental visual art. He’s a frequent presence at gear expos and independent film festivals, where he continues to build creative community and stay connected to the evolving tools of the industry. His work is driven by a desire to craft images that feel alive and intentional, always aiming to create an emotional connection through the frame.
